NJ ACTS KL scholar, Dr. Qiana Brown, published an article in Addiction on her research into unintended consequences of the legalization of cannabis on pregnant women. Cannabis use during pregnancy is associated with poor maternal and child health outcomes. However, its prevalence is increasing in the United States and Canada while perceived risk of cannabis use during pregnancy appears to be decreasing. Dr. Qiana Brown is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work and School of Public Health, Department of Urban-Global Public Health at Rutgers University. She directs the Substance Use Research, Evaluation, and Maternal and Child Health (SURE MatCH) Group at the School of Social Work’s Center for Prevention Science.
