People with asthma were among those considered at high risk of COVID-19 disease. However, some studies have shown pediatric asthma exacerbations and asthma-related health care utilization actually declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) state that approximately 4.8 million children in the US have asthma, with symptoms including breathing difficulty, wheezing, coughing, and tightness or pain in the chest.
