Detecting Gene-Environment Interactions for Complex Traits: Methodological and Conceptual Challenges (and Some Solutions)

The sudden availability of molecular genetic data has prompted increased study of gene-environment interactions in the social and biomedical sciences. Identifying and estimating statistical interactions comes with several analytic and inferential challenges, which are heightened when utilizing observational genomic and social scientific data. In this workshop, I articulate some of these key challenges and offer some practical guidance for conducting research in this area.
