The Clinical Research Center has been conducting clinical trials as a National Institutes of Health funded site for more than 15 years. Principal investigator, Dr. Shoba Swaminathan, leads this dynamic team providing research on HIV treatment & prevention, and Covid-19. Through community engagement, collaboration, and education, the research team has enrolled more than 1000 participants in their clinical trials. Located within the Infectious Disease Practice at140 Bergen Street in Newark New Jersey, they also tout an energetic and active Research Community Advisory Board that informs their research with a community-centered lens.
Many of the research studies are investigator-initiated or industry-funded. Sponsors include the National Institutes of Health (NIH), DAIDS (Division of AIDS), AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN), International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials (INSIGHT), and COVID Prevention Trials Network (CoVPN).
