Ankit Shah

Ankit ShahDr. Ankit Shah is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He received his BA in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University and his undergraduate thesis centered on extraskeletal functions of osteocalcin, a bone derived protein. After obtaining a medical degree from RWJMS with Alpha Omega Alpha honors, he completed an internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at Columbia University. During his fellowship, he received an F32 postdoctoral award to study the role of incretin hormones in glycemic improvement after gastric bypass surgery.

Dr. Shah’s current clinical and translational research focuses on using metabolomics and stable isotope tracer infusion to more fully understand the determinants of hepatic gluconeogenesis, a key driver of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
