Kathleen W. Scotto, Ph.D. is the Vice Chancellor for Research, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and Dean, Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences . She is also a member of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School . Following her training at the Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences and the Rockefeller University, she launched her independent career at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center, and served as Director for the Ph.D. Program in Pharmacology at Weill Cornell. Prior to joining Rutgers in 2013, she was a Member of the Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Vice President of Research and Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UMDNJ.
Widely recognized for their work on the regulation of drug resistance genes that impact sensitivity of cancer cells to therapeutic agents, the Scotto laboratory also studies the regulation of alternative splicing as it relates to the cancer phenotype. Combining her dedication to the nurturing and training of young scientists with her passion for the translation of basic science into new disease treatments, she has been very active in both industry organizations and scientific societies that are dedicated to promoting clinical/translational research and training, both in New Jersey and at the national level. She has served as the Academic Liaison to the Board of BioNJ and the Chair of the Research and Development Council of New Jersey and is presently Vice Chair of the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research. At the national level, she has served as Chair of the American Association of Academic Health Centers Vice President for Research Leadership Group and is currently Chair of the Science Education and Career Development Committee for the American Association for Cancer Research. Her distinguished honors include the NJABR Outstanding Woman in Research Award and the Distinguished Alumna Award from the Weill Cornell Graduate.
