Dr. DeMarco is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Health professions (SHP). She has been at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences for 26 years first as an assistant professor in the Rehabilitation and Movement Science Department, and now as a full professor and Interim Chair of the Health Informatics Department.
Dr. DeMarco has been the driving force behind the development of the Rutgers Biopharma Educational Initiative , MS in Clinical Trial Sciences, which brought together several schools and pharmaceutical companies to offer online education for the biopharmaceutical employee. Under her leadership, the program has enjoyed tremendous growth, and has received recognition among academic programs in clinical research as having a unique curriculum design. Dr. DeMarco has also been an active member of the Drug Information Association, serving several years on the Annual Program Committee, and is a Past President of the Consortium of Academic Programs in Clinical Research. She is currently serving on an accreditation team, developing standards for the self-study for accrediting academic programs in clinical research.
Dr. DeMarco’s areas of teaching include Medical Pathophysiology, Pharmacokinetics, Cultural Diversity in Clinical Trials and Pharmacology. She has developed several web-based courses and has authored two editions of a textbook on pharmacology. Dr. DeMarco’s research interests include methodology to improve subject recruitment efforts in clinical trials as well as in educating the public on the value of participating in a drug trial. Dr. DeMarco sits on the editorial board of both the Journal of Hand Therapy and the DIA journal, Therapeutic Innovation & Regulatory Science.
Dr. DeMarco has earned a BS from the University of Pennsylvania in Occupational Therapy, a MS degree in Physical Therapy from Columbia School of Physicians & Surgeons, and a PhD in Pharmacology from the Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
