The Clinical Center for Environmental and Occupational Health is New Jersey’s leading facility for workplace health. Its team of nationally-known occupational physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers and industrial hygienists will develop innovative services to meet the health needs of your business. The center draws upon the expertise of the clinicians, scientists and educators of the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

The Institute’s goals are: recognizing, evaluating and preventing risks to human health and the environment; improving methods to find and treat people affected by environmental agents; and developing and translating scientific information for effective decision-making by communities, employers, workers and government officials.

Location and Description

The Clinical Center for Environmental and Occupational Health is located at The Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute,
170 Frelinghuysen Road in Piscataway.

The Center is equipped to tackle the most difficult to diagnose occupational and environmental exposure problems, as well as more common ailments and required examinations for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance

Services and Equipment

Services range from medical evaluations to the creation of employee assistance programs and include:

Clinical Care and Problem Solving

  • Diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation related to workplace exposures and injuries
  • Independent medical evaluations
  • Assessment and solution of ergonomic problems
  • Routine occupational medical services, such as prescreenings for work and return to work
  • Clinical toxicology consultation to determine or exclude illness from toxicants
  • Evaluating sick building syndrome and indoor air quality

Program Development and Evaluation

  • Design of new occupational health programs or evaluation of current programs
  • Assistance with workplace issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Development of Right-to-Know and Hazard Communication policies and procedures
  • Case management of worker’s compensation claims
  • Health and safety program development and management
  • Development of hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs
  • Evaluation and audit of medical services, including chart reviews
  • Consultation about health service benefits and insurance plans
  • Development of Wellness Programs to reflect needs of the employee population (i.e., Quit Smoking Programs, Health Screenings)
  • Development of Medical Emergency Response Teams including CPR and First Aid Training for First Responders

Surveillance

  • Periodic evaluation of workers to detect workplace hazards or excessive exposure levels
  • Management of medical surveillance programs and compliance with OSHA standards
  • Biomonitoring for toxins
  • Hazardous waste worker surveillance examinations
  • Drug testing

Psychosocial Services

  • Counseling and psychotherapy
  • Surveillance / Assessment of neurocognitive and psychiatric effects of neurotoxicants
  • Creation of employee assistance programs and advisory services
  • Development of stress management programs
  • Development of needs assessments for employee groups, including retreats and formation of focus groups

Industrial Hygiene Evaluation
